Action Requested - Support the creation of a COPD program at the Center for Disease Control
Contact Your Representative to Support CDC in Creation of COPD Program
Action Requested
Call or e-mail your member of Congress today and urge them to provide funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create a COPD specific program. The House and Senate Appropriations Committees are drafting FY2009 spending bills now and will complete them within the next month, so for maximum effectiveness, please make your call by Friday, June 13th.
Contact your Member of Congress TODAY to stress that:
* COPD is the 4th leading cause of death in the U.S. and it is the only leading killer on the rise.
* CDC needs to develop a public health strategy to respond to the rising COPD rates, through a combination of public health planning and disease surveillance.
* Congress must provide CDC with funding in FY09 to start a COPD-specific program at CDC.
How to Take Action
Call the Capitol Switchboard at 1-202-224-3121 and ask for your Rep/Sen or give your zipcode if you do not know their name. When you are connected to an office, ask for the Health Legislative Assistant. If you leave a voicemail message, include your name and phone number so that they can call you back.
Sample phone message: “I am a constituent and a healthcare provider from (your town) and I am calling to ask Rep/Sen. ___ to support creation of a COPD program at the CDC. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), is the 4th leading cause of death in the U.S. and it is the only leading killer on the rise. CDC needs to develop a public health strategy to respond to rising COPD rates, through a combination of public health planning and disease surveillance. Please support providing $6 million in funding to start a COPD-specific program at CDC in the FY09 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations bill. Thank you.”
